  17.         -- DR6WIN.ZIP : This is a packed file which contains
  18.            the following two files:
  19.                                 
  20.               -- README.BAT : This batch file which describes how to
  21.                  install this update.
  22.                        
  23.               -- OPEN_UP.ZIP : Another packed file which contains
  24.                  the remaining update files.

  27.  HOW TO USE OPEN_UP.ZIP...
  28.                          
  29.         Unpacking this file with the proper syntax will generate all
  30.      the remaining files needed to update your DRDOS 6.0 operating
  31.      system.  It is a packed file just like the DR6WIN.ZIP file which you
  32.      have already discovered.  OPEN_UP.ZIP is a little different in that 
  33.      it contains files along with their stored path information.  Therefore
  34.      it is necessary to unpack this file with the "-d -JRHS" options (case-
  35.      sensitive) to put the files it contains into their own proper sub-
  36.      directories.

  38.      Type the following commands at the command line to proceed:
  39.                     
  40.                     MD UPDATE
  41.                     PKUNZIP -d -JRHS OPEN_UP.ZIP UPDATE
  42.                     CD UPDATE

  44.      To create a floppy disk which can be used to update floppy based 
  45.      systems or multiple licenses of DRDOS, prepare a low density diskette
  46.      using the FORMAT command and type the following:
  47.              
  48.                     PKUNZIP -d OPEN_UP.ZIP d:
  49.               
  50.               d:   -- Floppy drive with the newly formatted floppy disk

  53.  HOW TO USE THE FILES EXTRACTED FROM OPEN_UP.ZIP...

  57.         You will notice that the OPEN_UP.ZIP file also contains a file 
  58.      called UPDATE.BAT.  This is the batch file you will use to update your
  59.      DRDOS 6.0 operating system.  To update DRDOS, you will need to specify
  60.      on which drive DRDOS is already installed.  If this batch file does 
  61.      not find DRDOS 6.0 already on the machine you are using in the drive
  62.      you specify, it will not install the update.

  65.      -- FOR USERS WITH DRDOS ON A HARD DRIVE...
  66.                      
  67.            To update a DRDOS installation on a hard drive, you must specify
  68.         which bootable partition of your hard drive contains DRDOS and the
  69.         name of the sub-directory containing the DRDOS files.  The partition
  70.         will normally be the "C:" partition and the sub-directory, normally 
  71.         the "DRDOS" directory.  Now, you will need to log onto the drive and 
  72.         sub-directory containing the UPDATE.BAT file and the remaining files
  73.         which were extracted from the OPEN_UP file, and type:
  74.               
  75.                          UPDATE d: path
  76.               
  77.               d:   -- The drive on which DRDOS is installed.
  78.               path -- The path which contains the DRDOS files.
  79.

  81.      -- FOR USERS WITH DRDOS ON A SET OF FLOPPIES...

  83.            You can update a DRDOS installation on a set of floppies in much
  84.         the same way as you can on a hard drive.  The difference is that
  85.         the UPDATE.BAT file needs only to know which floppy drive contains
  86.         the first DRDOS operating system diskette to be updated.  So, you 
  87.         will need to log onto the drive and sub-directory containing the 
  88.         UPDATE.BAT file, and type:

  90.                          UPDATE d:
  91.                 
  92.               d: -- The floppy drive containing the DRDOS 6.0 STARTUP DISK.
  93.                       
  94.         NOTES ON FLOPPY INSTALLATION: 
  95.            -- The UPDATE.BAT file will prompt you for each of the other
  96.              disks as they are needed.
  97.            -- Digital Research does not recommend updating your original
  98.              floppy disks.  Use UPDATE on a backup set.
  99.            -- Users with two floppy drives only on their machine should
  100.              have the UPDATE.BAT file and the others unpacked from the 
  101.              OPEN_UP file in one drive, and run the batch file from
  102.              that drive specifying the other as the drive containing the
  103.              floppies to be updated.

  109.         -- Check that you've entered the command correctly and that any
  110.           options are used as specified above.

  113.                     PKUNZIP -t OPEN_UP.ZIP

  115.         -- If the integrity of the utility file is bad, you may have to
  116.           attempt downloading the DR6WIN.ZIP file again.

  118.      -- IF THE DRDOS UPDATE.BAT FILE "DOESN'T WORK"...
